SAM CAHOON – OUR CHEF & OWNER

Executive Chef & Owner Sam Cahoon is a true born-and-bred Wilmington native. He has spent the last 12 years working his way up through the ranks at several of the most successful and well known local restaurants, such as Dockside, Sweet N Savory, and the K38 restaurant group, while also graduating with honors from Cape Fear Community College’s Culinary Arts program.

He was most recently the Executive Chef at Ceviche’s, from November 2014 to October 2016, where he developed his signature style and dishes, such as the BLT arepas and Tiny Tuna Tostadas.

After leaving Ceviche’s, Sam decided it was time to go in to business for himself, combining his palate for flavors and colors with a unique vision of art, music, and community into the restaurant Savorez.

MARIE KUNZA – GENERAL MANAGER

Marie Kunza, General Manager, hails from southern Arizona and brings her culturally diverse palate to Wilmington, North Carolina.

In 2010 Kunza was invited to collaborate, conceptualize, develop, and ultimately run Rail Car Restaurant out of Omaha, Nebraska to critical acclaim.

After receiving her certification from the Court of Masters Sommeliers, Marie brought her knowledge of wines and spirits to expand Topsail Beach’s Quarter Moon’s wine and beer program. While already a successful book store, boutique, and coffee shop she elevated the experience with a chic, sought-after wine bar and live entertainment destination.

Marie joined the Savorez team in 2017. She has developed a unique bar experience rooted in an innovative libations menu while focusing on providing personal guest experiences. With knowledge and exceptional service, she has piloted the Savorez team to bring it to its continued success.
